A streptococcal adhesion system for salivary pellicle and platelets.

چکیده
A Streptococcus sanguis 133-79 adhesin identified by the monoclonal antibody 1.1 (MAb 1.1) binds both saliva-coated hydroxylapatite (sHA) and platelets. The complementary binding site(s) for the adhesin was identified by the anti-idiotypical MAb 2.1. To learn if this adhesion system, marked by the antiadhesin MAb 1.1 and anti-binding site MAb 2.1, is commonly used by strains within the sanguis group and other viridans group streptococci, 42 strains from seven species were tested. Strains that bind to both sHA and platelets use the same adhesin and binding site epitopes. Strains that do not adhere to platelets rely on other adhesin specificities to bind to sHA.

Supramolecular pellicle precursors.
Saliva contacting with solid surfaces in the oral cavity forms a coat termed the pellicle. However, its formation is not fully understood. Although indications for the existence of supramolecular pellicle precursors have been reported, the possible relationship between them and pellicle formation is unclear. This study investigates the ability of supramolecular precursors to form the pellicle v...

Human saliva is is approximately 98% water and is a highly complex mixture of proteins, super saturated minerals, debris and bacteria [1]. The salivary proteins can be immediately adsorbed upon tooth surfaces and become a proteinaceous film known as acquired salivary pellicle, which can act as an effective boundary lubrication system to decrease dental friction and wear in mouth [2]. It has bee...

Saliva plays an important role in acquired pellicle formation on tooth surfaces, crystal growth homeostasis, bacterial adhesion, plaque formation. The role of smoking as a contributory factor in the progression of the periodontal disease process has long been suspected.
متن کاملAdhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Biofilm Formation on Different Types of Orthodontic Brackets
Objectives. To examine the interaction between Porphyromonas gingivalis and 3 different orthodontic brackets in vitro, focusing on the effect of an early salivary pellicle and other bacteria on the formation of biofilms. Material and Methods. Mono- and multi-species P. gingivalis biofilms were allowed to form in vitro, on 3 different bracket types (stainless steel, ceramic and plastic) with and...
متن کاملInfluence of surface roughness on streptococcal adhesion forces to composite resins.
OBJECTIVE To determine streptococcal adhesion forces with composite resins with different surface roughness. METHODS Polishing and grinding were applied to obtain smooth (roughness 20 nm), moderately rough (150 nm) and rough (350 nm) surfaces of two orthodontic, light-cured composites. Adhesion forces between Streptococcus sanguinis and Streptococcus mutans and the composite surfaces were mea...
